1.
Dry 01:18
You are not the only one Who's struggling to weather all these storms Over yonder there's somewhere to go A house that breathes out all the things you know Open the door and walk inside Here is a place to bear your wounded pride Just leave your shoes out by the side And you can rest your soaking bones until they're dry
2.
Brother, my brother, you're wasting away Sighing and slaving all night and all day Ragged and raw I've watched you gathering all of your rage And bending it round you like bars in a cage I've seen it before, and it worries me more than you know 'Cos I can't bear to watch you tearing at the seams All of those evenings with bottles in hand, World at our fingertips, making our plans And waking up sore, where did they go? You always swore The life's worth more than just the money that you make No mistake You'll bend and break For your own sake it's time you walked right out the door
3.
Interlude 03:13
4.
I'm a restless soul, Heart too young and head too old My armour's quick, Acres wide and inches thick And I'm used to my alone time I'm used to my alone time, alone time Here's a restless match, Out of the box and ready to catch A real bright spark With a flame that lights the darkest dark And my knees are knocking something fierce 'Cos she's got deep, deep pockets full of dangerous ideas But I'm sick of my alone time So sick of my alone time, alone time You can see that I've been feeling cold And I know a flame like this could warm my soul Won't let it burn out on its own Now there's no time for uhms and ahs, cos oh, I feel it kindling Was never one to play with fire I'm far too careful to get burned, burned, burned But now I'm sweating on this fire It's spreading everywhere I turn, turn, turn And so the fire is going strong But I know I wasn't made to burn this long And as it's getting out of hand I start to understand that All I am is kindling Was never one to play with fire I'm far too careful to get burned, burned, burned But now I'm sweating on this fire It's spreading everywhere I turn, turn, turn
5.
Assemble my scientists And bring your accessories We'll all settle down for a night Of amateur chemistry We'll line all the benches with bottles and glass Beakers, containers and flat-bottomed flasks Mix liquids in marvellous ways And record the results Experimenting oh so boldly But these findings are for our eyes only We'll guard these formulas We've tested all solutions here Subjected them to every diagnostic Developed o'er the course of years Preeminent in all things clear and caustic Too dry, too sweet Too strong, too weak Too rich, too steep to last a whole night Two drops, two sips Two more, stains my lips And now we're feeling tipsy Experimenting oh so boldly But these findings are for our eyes only We'll guard these formulas
6.
Father's Son 04:06
Little man, I'll do all that I can To be all you need And this I swear by the name that we share By the blood we bleed But when you're older, and wiser, and bolder You will come to know We are all just as small as each other Though we try to grow But the proudest medals I have earned Come from battles that I haven't won And the hardest lesson I have learned Is how to be my father's son The hardest lesson I have learned Is how to be my father's son I will carry your pain as my own I will bear your scars And I'll survive on your triumph and joy And treasure all you are But you will see that although I believe That I will pass this test There are powers much greater than men Though we try our best But the proudest medals I have earned Come from battles that I haven't won And the hardest lesson I have learned Is how to be my father's son The hardest lesson I have learned Is how to be my father's son We're told that men are stone, Solid and unmoving, But even stones wear down with time There is no weakness in a growing, changing mind But the proudest medals I have earned Come from battles that I haven't won And the hardest lesson I have learned Is how to be my father's son The hardest lesson I have learned Is how to be my father's son
7.
Spoons 01:50
Your cutlery drawer is empty Your cutlery drawer is bare Your table's had visitors plenty Been breathing in crowded air How are you spending your spoons? Using the up all too soon Their burnish burdened with brine And you need some time To wash them with water and soap 'Til the silver shines through And your spoons can once more be used
8.
High Hopes 04:32
Rub that sleep, son, out, out of your eyes Out of your eyes Sky is shining, now, now you must rise Now you must rise And I know that you've been tired, I do Know that you've been lonely, too We would lift you out, out of this place Out of this place Clear the tracks of tears off of your face Off of your face And we know that you've been tired, we do Know that you've been lonely, too Yes we know that you've been low, it's true But we've got high hopes for you Yes we've got high hopes for you Got high hopes for you, oh we do, oh we do Got high hopes for you Got high hopes for you, oh we do, oh we do, oh we do High hopes, we've got high hopes When you're carrying the world on your shoulders And you're feeling like you're ten years older We don't doubt that you're gonna pull through because We've got high hopes and we put them on you Keep walking that narrow line Put your best foot forward it'll turn out fine if you Hold on Hold on Hold on
9.
River running down Soaking my soul A shiver, stepping out Into the wide world Mirror on the wall Judging my skin It's only morning It's only morning Let me sleep Let me sleep Let me sleep Puddle on the floor Soaking my soles Huddle, through the door Out of the wide world Pressure, dragging down Wearing me thin Breathe in the evening Finally evening Let me sleep Let me sleep Let me sleep Let me sleep
10.
My hands are idle Grab hold before the devil sees You'll be my bridle I'll champ the bit and aim to please I watch your fingers They're tracing shapes upon the air The image lingers Like arrows leading who knows where This path is twisted But I've always like the long way round This gravel pinches But my feet are inches off the ground Oh, my feet are inches off the ground

about

Here's The Steeple is the musical handle of Dan Walters, and his talented friends. Dan used to perform under the name Run The River. 'High Hopes' is his first release as Here's The Steeple.

Here's The Steeple and Run The River have received support from Tom Robinson (BBC 6 Music) and Bob Fischer (BBC Music Introducing on BBC Tees), as well as several other local radio stations.

High Hopes is a record informed by, if not about, Huddersfield. Dan went to uni in Huddersfield, where he was met by a huge number of incredible musicians and a music scene that thrived on collaboration. The songs on the album share themes such as homecoming, reminiscing, mental health, and all the other things moaned about by people going through a quarter-life crisis.

High Hopes was made with the help of a host of Huddersfield musicians without who's time and talent it wouldn't have happened.
